Collectible of the Year Zippo lighters, new collectible Zippos

The Zippo® Collectibles of the Year

Since 1992 the Zippo Manufacturing Company has produced special Collectible of the Year Zippo lighters in commemorative tins, available for a limited time and prized by lighter collectors. Smokerstuff strives to offer as many of these to the public as possible.
1992   The first Collectible of the Year commemorates Zippo's 60th Anniversary. The lighter is midnight chrome with a pewter emblem. High polish chrome lighters with a similar design, but etched onto the lighter surface, were also produced, but not in the special commemorative tin.
1993   The highly sought after "1935 Varga Girl" Zippo lighter was released this year. A high polish chrome finish with a pewter emblem of "Windy", cigarette-in-hand, and dress blowing in the wind. The classic design recalled Zippo's first national advertisement of 1937.
1994   The D-Day Commemorative Zippo salutes the 50th anniversary of the "greatest day" with a black crackle surface and antique brass emblem patterned on sleeve patches worn by the Allied troops. A four lighter set of ethced brass lighters was also released in a similar, but larger tin, called the Allied Heroes set.
1995   The gorgeous Mysteries of the Forest four lighter set featuring brass lighters, colorful designs, and all forming a pattern of the face of a panther when looked at from a distance. A companion single lighter called Panther & Cub at Turtle Falls was the lighter made from a close up of one small section of the four lighter collage.
1996   Zippo Salutes Pin Up Girls! The now famous four lighter set featured chrome lighters, colorful emblems, and the four stunning Zippo models. The single Pin Up companion lighter ( Joan) was also produced in a similar, but smaller custom display tin.
1997   The 65th Anniversary Commemorative Zippo lighter bears an antique pewter emblem in the art-deco style, recalling the era of Zippo's founding. As usual, the custom collector tin is unique and the lid includes a very graphic design of the Zippo 65th anniversary logo.
1998   The original Zippo Car was commissioned by founder George G. Blaisdell in the 1940's and 1950's. In 1997, Zippo recreated the Zippo Car, and in 1998 released the special edition Zippo Car lighter with key holder in special collector tin.
1999   The highly sought after Y2K Millennium lighter. Only 100,000 to be produced, with only 40,000 released in the USA. The other 60,000 to be spread out over the rest of the world. See page for problems with production of this item.
2000   Keeper of the Flame. This collectible features a first of its kind earth-toned, embossed, genuine leather medallion encased in a antique brass frame on a classic chrome lighter. Packaged in special tin. Limited edition of only 100,000 pieces worldwide.
2001   Hollywood's Leading Light. Tenth in the series of Zippo limited edition Collectible of the Year lighters.
2002   Friends For A Lifetime. The final installment of the Collectible of the Year Series. This is the 70th Anniversary Edition lighter limited to 700,00 Worldwide. Comes with custom collector tin
